Falcon Trans Turns Vision Into Reality with Melbourne North Truck Centre
A Long-Standing Partnership Driving Growth
The partnership between Falcon Trans and Melbourne North Truck Centre began in 2024, since then, Sales Consultant Sundar Baskar has sold 5 prime movers to Mickie. The relationship has helped support Falcon Trans' growth from a single-truck operation into a respected interstate freight transport company servicing major routes across Australia.
The partnership between Melbourne North Truck Centre Sales Consultant Sundar and long-time Kenworth customer Mickie extends well beyond the traditional customer-salesperson relationship. Having first met at a Drive Day event in Anglesea, the pair quickly developed a strong connection built on trust, mutual respect and a shared passion for the transport industry.
"I first met Mickie at Drive Day in Anglesea, and we've built a great relationship ever since," said Sundar
"When I started at Melbourne North Truck Centre, I made a point of catching up with Mickie and we picked up right where we left off."
"What started as a customer relationship has grown into a genuine friendship outside of work."
Founded in Melbourne in 2016 with just one prime mover, Falcon Trans has grown into a trusted provider of freight transport and logistics services, operating across Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane. Today, the business transports a wide range of general palletised freight and offers a dedicated overnight express service, supported by a modern and expanding fleet.
“In 2016 I was driving for a transport company and decided I wanted to have a go on my own”, said Mickie
“I had roughly a decade of experience before making the decision, and it was based on the wider opportunities available when you buy and run your own trucks and trailers. I thought why not give it a go and I haven’t regretted it ever since.”
“We aimed to build to the point we had 10 trucks in the fleet.”
“We were worried what would stop us was the lack of good drivers available on the market, but we’ve been very lucky to find some wonderful people. When they arrived, we’ve been able to grow and buy more trucks.”
Expanding the Fleet with Kenworth and DAF Trucks
A long-time Kenworth customer, Mickie took delivery of a new Kenworth K220 in August 2025 from Sundar, from our Melbourne North Truck Centre team.
The continued growth of Mickie's fleet reflects not only the success of his business but also the long-standing relationship he has built with Sundar, whose trusted advice has supported each new truck purchase along the way.
"Mickie is an amazing person to deal with. He's straightforward, genuine and easy-going," said Sundar.
"He's one of those customers who makes your job enjoyable."
The new Kenworth K220 is powered by the renowned Cummins X15 550hp engine, the truck is complemented by an Eaton endurant transmission, Meritor axles and brakes, delivering the performance, durability and reliability required for demanding interstate transport operations.
The K220 was further customised with a Kentweld bumper, Alemlube greasing system, Transair air-conditioning and microwave, a custom walkplate, stainless steel stacks, illuminated tank skirts and upper bunk roof lights fitted by Armoury Group, with signwriting completed by Royan’s.
With the truck customised to suit his specific needs, Mickie’s decision to choose DAF was driven by his positive experience with the brand and its reputation for reliability and accessibility.
“The dealership got me interested in DAF trucks, and I soon discovered they are incredibly reliable trucks that are easy to access so I’ve gone with them”, said Mickie.
Recognising the benefits of modern fleet technology and fuel-efficient transport solutions, Falcon Trans expanded its fleet further with the purchase of its first DAF XG 660, marking the beginning of the company's journey with the DAF brand.
Finished in striking gold livery, the XG 660 features a Transair Icepack system, dashcam installation by Waldron Communications, Royans signwriting, and pre-delivery fitment of a microwave, roof bar and marker lights by Hallam & Bayswater Truck Centre.
“Everything has been good with the very first DAF truck we bought – I’m impressed by the XG660’s power efficiency. They’re such good and reliable trucks that allow us to offer top notch services to customers”.
Falcon Trans' Growing DAF Fleet
The positive experience with the first DAF XG 660 quickly led to a second purchase from Melbourne North Truck Centre. In June the following year, Falcon Trans welcomed another DAF XG 660 to the fleet.
Finished in white, the truck was equipped with a TruckArt Viesa Kompressor III air-conditioning system, dashcam by Waldron Communications, Royans signwriting, and a custom walkplate and bullbar installed by the Melbourne North Truck Centre Pre-Delivery team.
“We’ve surpassed our goal of having 10 trucks which is incredible – we currently have 18 trucks.”
“Recently we’ve been buying DAFs to add to some Kenworths. A key reason behind this is my relationship with Sundar – he’s very honest and knowledgeable, which I like when working with dealers – and I consider him a mate now.”
“When I ask questions, I get answers straightaway, and I have always had wonderful experiences when dealing with Melbourne North Truck Centre.”
How Melbourne North Truck Centre Supports Falcon Trans' Success
What began as a single-truck operation has evolved into a thriving interstate freight transport business. Approaching a decade in operation, Falcon Trans employs an experienced team of interstate drivers and operates a diverse fleet.
According to Mickie, the advanced technology, driver comfort and operational efficiency offered by the DAF range have played an important role in the company’s continued growth and future development.
“These latest DAFs include an upgrade software system compared to previous models that I really enjoy.”
“I also love how they use a Cummins motor, which I find to be more powerful and reliable. These trucks run so well and reliably.”
Looking Ahead: Continued Growth for Falcon Trans
As Falcon Trans celebrates this significant milestone throughout 2026, Mickie remains focused on the future. With a fleet of 18 prime movers and growing, he has no plans to slow down.
"It's been great watching Falcon Trans continue to grow and achieve new milestones," said Sundar.
From the early challenges of operating a second-hand truck prone to breakdowns to building a respected national transport operation, the combination of Kenworth and DAF trucks within the fleet reflects just how far the business has come.
“I feel so proud and I’m thankful to my team who work hard, I’m so proud to have served our customers so well and to continue making them happy,” said Mickie.
“A great mark of our success has been the ongoing customers we work with – over half of our clients have been with us for the best part of our 10-year journey to date.”
"Seeing Falcon Trans reach its 10-year anniversary is a fantastic achievement," said Sundar.
"I'm proud to have been part of Mickie's journey and to see how far Falcon Trans has come."
“We originally aimed to have 10 trucks in our fleet and we’ve achieved that, so we’ll continue to look at expanding in a steady and smooth manner. Our partnership with Kenworth and DAF will be important to this as we continue growing alongside them.”
Congratulations to Mickie and the entire Falcon Trans team and thank you for your continued trust in Melbourne North Truck Centre, Kenworth Australia and DAF Australia. We look forward to supporting your success for many years to come.
